U of T Pediatric Dentistry Gathering: Thank you Dr. Michael Sigal

As OHTH has been united with pediatric dentistry since inception, only seems fitting that we recognize and appreciate Dr. Michael Sigal.

A pediatric dentist is the one who has the experience and the qualifications to be able to give professional dental care to children. The oral health care pediatric dentist can provide involve the care for a child’s teeth, gums and other supporting tissues in the mouth involving general dentistry. Pediatric dentists can be your child’s best friend when it comes to their oral health from infancy throughout adolescence. He can help your child get the protection they need against oral health conditions that can result in long term problems and lifelong complications.

Oral health exams for infants which also include risk assessment of decay and cavities for both the baby as well as the mother
Preventive measures to steer clear of cavities and decay which include dental cleaning, fluoride treatment, education and discussion on proper diet and nutrition
Evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of orthodontic conditions such as misaligned or crooked teeth and improper bite
Early detection of oral health problems that could be potentially linked to serious oral health conditions like asthma, diabetes, congenital heart problems, hay fever and many others
Treatment and care for dental injuries including a damaged or a fractured teeth
Habit counselling for the use of pacifier, and thumb sucking
Repair of damaged or decayed teeth

Sunday, June 26th 2016 marked a very special day, as the University of Toronto Department of Pediatric Dentistry and Alumni gathered to honour Dr. Michael Sigal, who has stepped down as Head of the program after a tremendous 23 years.

It was an amazing day for all! Outpouring of stories, videos and memories from alumni across Canada and some, from across the world filled everyone with a sense of happiness and joy!

On behalf of the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, we again would like to thank Dr. Michael Sigal for everything that he has done for us, and for our profession over the years.
