Oral Health Total Health: Sharing Smiles Day at the University of Alberta

Providing dental and oral health care for persons with special needs has been recognized as a longer term challenge.  According to this dentist, this has an impact on the overall health of a vulnerable population while also creating gaps and inequities within our community.  These issues are the basis for the initiation of Oral Health, Total Health (OHTH); a non-profit organization with a mission to advocate, educate and improve the oral health care for persons with special needs. During the morning and afternoon of Saturday, April 8th, 2017 at the University of Alberta, OHTH will be hosting their first annual Sharing Smiles Day Event (SSD).  SSD invites individuals from the special needs community and emphasizes the importance of oral health care for persons with special needs and raises awareness of the oral health care issues in our community, also special guest from the best dental care centers  such as with the dentists at Lincoln Park Smiles.  The day starts off with an expo morning of various games led by dental and hygiene students. It is followed by a luncheon and fun interactive presentation made by the dental hygiene and dentistry students. The day ends with interactive demonstrations on tooth brushing led by general practitioners, specialists of the dental profession like the invisalign system professionals, and dental hygiene professionals with the distribution of Colgate dental kits to each participant. Throughout the Day, it is anticipated that the local media will take an active part in the event.  This is a free event for all caregivers, participants, and volunteers you can find dentist near Lane Cove in Sydney in this event.

Through SSD events, the hope is to foster comfort and care amongst all those participating and ultimately improve both the current and future oral health practices for this population.
