Letter of Support: Deb Matthews, Minister of Health and Long Term Care, Ontario

Sept. 15, 2010

Dear Oral Health, Total Health team,

Ensuring that Ontarians with special needs have access to the dental care they need is an important job. Thars why I want to thank you for taking the initiative to run a program like Oral Health, Total Health, It’s a tremendous accomplishment and a
testament to how committed Ontario’s dental students are to improving patient care. There’s nothing more impressive or inspiring than seeing a community come together to take care of those in need. We know that good oral health is an important part of good overall health. That’s why our government took steps to start our Children in Need of Treatment program, which provides emergency dental care and out-of-hospital coverage for low-income children age 17 and under. Now, we are moving forward with a plan that, when fully implemented, will provide an additional $45 million annually to ensure that children of low-income Ontarians will have access to quality preventative dental care.

These are first steps. We want to do more because, like you, we recognize the importance of good oral and access to quality dental care. I want to thank you for the important work that you do in helping Ontarians with special needs receive the oral care they need.
