Sharing Smiles Day / Other OHTH Initiatives

The goal of this event is to provide an opportunity for positive interactions among future dental professionals and individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities. We hope this day will allow everyone to gain comfort, confidence & familiarity while at the same time educating and promoting awareness to the importance of oral health care in individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities.

The day consists of a carnival morning beginning with games, activities and art & crafts created and led by dental students and faculty volunteers. There will be food and refreshments available to all throughout the morning. The day will end with a dental demonstration and participation addressing the importance of prevention with oral hygiene led by dental students.

We hope that this event will be the first of many at Dalhousie’s Dental School creating a better future and universal access to oral health care for all individuals through promoting awareness and fostering relationships.

We held our first Sharing Smiles Day on April 2, 2016 and our second on April 8, 2017. They were both huge successes! Thanks to all the volunteers and faculty who supported these events! Also, a big thanks to all the participants – we hope to see you back this year on April 7, 2018 from 10 AM until 2 PM!
